2 Dozen Roses
I want to preserve a half dozen red roses I got for my anniversary. Does anyone know what/how to do that?
I don’t want to press them…mine always turn out “moldy”. I’ve thought about waxing them, but have been told that will only preserve them for 2 weeks. Is drying them out my only option? I don’t want them to get crispy and turn to dust/trash if they are handled..ie..moved to a vase.
Thanks for any suggestions!
I hang my roses to dry them. I have blooms that are twenty years old.
So long as the rose is healthy to begin with it will dry just fine. Low grade roses sometimes lose their petals once dried.
Just gather the roses in a bunch and tie them together.
Hang them upside down ( to keep the stem from bending over where the flower is ) in a cool dry spot out of direct sun for 10-14 days. Once they are dry you can set them in a vase or snip off the flower heads and put them in a potpourri bowl, tea cup, ivy bowl, wherever you might like to display them.

Roses and Tulips are the Symbol for Love
If you ask a random person on the street to name the first flower that comes to their mind, nine times out of ten they will answer with either rose or tulip. The rose can be dated back to somewhere around thirty-five million years ago and is estimated to have one hundred and fifty different species. It is believed that the traditional rose garden possibly originated in China about five thousand years ago.
Roses are often used as a symbol for love. The price for a dozen nearly doubles during the month of February. Obviously, for the Valentine’s Day tradition, nothing says “I Love You” better than a dozen long stem roses and a box of chocolates. Roses are also the number one choice when it comes to anniversaries.
Another popular romantic use for roses is the time old classic of opening up the front door to find soft romantic music flowing through the air with only the light from dozens of lit candles. When you look down you see a beautiful trail of fresh rose pedals gentle spread through the house, leading you to the bedroom where your knight in shining armor awaits your arrival with a bottle of champagne and two glasses.
Tulips, on the other hand, are also associated with love. However, they are usually more in demand during springtime. Tulips are not only given as bouquets they are also a popular potted plant gift as well. It is believed that each of the colors that tulips come in have a different meaning. For instance, the red tulip represents true love while white tulips signify forgiveness.
You can also find tulips in purple, yellow, and then there is the variegated tulip that means beautiful eyes. Both the rose and the tulip are beautiful delicate flowers that can bring a smile to anyone’s face. Flowers are just a wonderful way to show someone that you are thinking of them.

John L. Carlson has invested quite a bit of time and effort in researching the flower of love. Through his research, he discovered that the number one flower across the nation is the rose. When celebrating special events in people’s lives, showing someone that they are loved, or sending loved ones off at a funeral, roses create a message that few other flowers could hope to mimic. The flower that came in at second when related to love is the tulip. Tulips are associated with quite a few different things depending on their colors, the red tulip being the symbol for true love.
Can you help me on a Algebra 2 problem?
For a weeding, Shereda bought several dozen roses and several dozen carnations. The roses cost $15 per dozen and carnations cost $8 per dozen. Shereda bought total of 17 dozen flowers and paid a total of $192. How many roses did she buy? (please show your work)
R + C = 17
15R + 8C = 192
C = 17 – R
15R + 8(17 – R) = 192
15R – 8R + 136 = 192
7R = 192 – 136 = 56
R = 8
C = 17 – R = 17 – 8 = 9
She bought 9 dozen carnations and 8 dozen roses.
