Building A Garden Wall

Garden Walls and Fences Add Definition and Charm
Gardening is a great hobby. There is nothing quite like spending long days outdoors, digging in the earth, planting seeds by hand and watching your garden come to live. If you have a home garden that is rather new and consists of nothing more than a rectangular plot in your yard, you should consider adding a garden wall to give your garden character and charm.
Building a wall around your garden can be a simple affair or it can be a well planned out job that is rather involved. If you have a limited budget, perhaps you would like to build your own wall out of flat flagstones. This involves digging a six inch trench along the edges of the garden and then filling that trench with the largest, flattest stones to form the base of the wall. Then you only need to stack the medium sized stones to make the body of the wall. Use the smallest stones as fillers to tuck into the crevices. This type of wall adds an incredible amount of charm to any garden and provides the area with a very natural looking border.
Another budget-minded border you can use to define your garden is garden fencing. Most home and garden centers carry garden fencing that is ideal for installing around the edges of both flower and vegetable gardens. This type of fencing is normally made of wood or metal and there are a great many styles and varieties available. Garden fencing can be as simple or as ornate as you wish. It is very easy to put in the fencing yourself using common household tools.
If you love the looks of masonry brick, then you can make a brick garden wall in virtually any shape that you desire. Brick walls stand up to extreme exposure to the elements such as rain, snow, freezing temperatures and direct sunlight. Using salvaged brick for the wall will give your garden old-world charm and used brick is normally much less expensive than new brick.
Garden walls not only look great and give your garden a lot of definition but they also serve as garden protection. Neighborhood children, dogs and cats will remain outside of your garden if you erect a wall around it.
Walls add structure and style to gardens. You do not need any experience whatsoever to construct your own wall, but you do need to have a strong back. If you live in a city you may want to check with your local building inspector to see if your town has building codes you must adhere to before going ahead with the construction.

can i use breeze blocks to build a five foot wall in my garden?
Can i use breeze blocks to build a wall in my garden and not render it?
we wanted to use breeze blocks as they are lighter and cheaper
we also wanted to do it quickly so if we made the wall this year we could perhaps render it next year
will it be strong enough at about some areas four feet high and some areas about five feet high
our main concern is what about in strong wind will the wall stay up particularly as breeze blocks are light weight
are breeze blocks strong enough for a wall even though they are light weight
thank you for your help

I wouldn’t – breeze blocks absorb moisture quickly and it would soon start to fall down and powderise.
Even with a good render you would still have problems in the not too distant future.
Pay the extra and use the composite blocks (concrete and stone) – then render.
You can make your own – it just takes time to do -
