Easiest Roses To Grow

Easiest Roses To Grow
Is there a rose bush that grows better than others?

My dirt is mostly all clay. But I want to plant a few Rose Bushes. Do they all need sun only? If they are climbers, I have to get something for them to climb on. Is any material better than another?

Is there one type of rose that is easier to grow than another?

Thank you. :)

We have clay here in ATL (boy do we have clay… and it is nice and red!) . I dig a good hole and amend the soil with peat moss and vermiculite. The roses do well in full sun and they bloom from spring to first hard frost. These roses are not long stemmed and have some thorns but their bloom time is long and they have wonderful scents! They are also NOT prone to blackspot or other fungal diseases. You can use a systemic on them to reduce aphids and japanese beetles if those are a problem where you live (I don’t have much trouble here. . Some of my favorite David Austins are Mary Rose, Graham Thomas, Heritage and Ambridge Rose. My Winchester Cathedral has been a little bit of a disappointment but is doing better this year. Blossoms are not as large as I would like. . You can see them here: . http://www.davidaustinroses.com/american/Advanced.asp?PageId=2025 . I don’t “do” climbing roses but any trellis should be made of a sturdy, rot-proof (or resistant) material. Metal (heavy cast aluminum is nice) or pressure treated wood work well.

Common Rose Diseases: Tips for Prevention and Care

Unfortunately, roses can be highly susceptible to a number of different diseases.   Prevention is always better than cure and the easiest way to do this is to plant hardier rose varieties.  Some rose varieties require more care than others, and if you feel you don’t have much time to devote to your roses, ensure you plant the hardier types.

The next step in prevention is sunlight.   Plant your roses where they will receive at least six hours of sunlight a day.   Whilst some varieties are more shade tolerant, fungus and mildew are more likely to attack plants that don’t get as much sun.

Planting a variety of different flowers and plants around your roses rather than a monoculture of only roses will also help prevent disease as it creates a more balanced ecosystem, attracts natural predators and helps keep disease in check.   Finally, ensure that your roses are planted in well-drained soil so they don’t stand in water and also don’t use too much fertilizer on your plants as this attracts diseases.

Curing Common Problems

Here is a list of some of the more common problems occurring on roses and some tips and guidelines to cure them.  A golden rule is not to wait, check  your roses often and tackle a problem as soon as you see it.

Aphids and Spider Mites

These little insects like to suck the sap out of your roses, causing the roses to dry out.   Ladybird beetles are natural predators of aphids so encourage those insects in your garden.   Otherwise, a solution of soapy water will wash these infestations away.

Black Spot

This is one of the most common diseases affecting roses and is caused by a fungus that affects the rose canes and causes black spots to appear on the plant leaves. The first line of attack is to immediately prune away the infected areas.   To prevent this fungus from attacking your plants, make sure you water the base of the plant and try not to water the foliage and flowers.

As this disease progresses, you will see black spots on the leaves with a yellow ring around them.  Eventually the black spots grow until the entire leaf turns yellow and falls off the bush.   Use Bordeaux Mix to get rid of black spot and other fungal diseases.

Canker

Another disease caused by a fungus which results in black spots on your rose plant.  Eventually the rose canes will turn black or brown.   You should prune away any of the diseased areas.

Rust

Rust is also a fungus infection which can be treated with fungicides.  Apply fungicide at the first sign of disease as the longer you allow the fungus to grow the more difficult it is too manage.  As part of the treatment, you should also remove all dead and seriously infested leaves, flowers and stems.

Midge

In this case, a tiny insect lives inside your rosebuds and damages them.   Once again, you have to prune any affected areas to get rid of this problem.

Remember, prevention is better than cure and early detection and quick action is essential.

A question about marriage have you gone though this?

I have been married 13 years and it has not always been easy. I grew up in a home where my dad cherish and adored my mom and lavished her with so much like roses diamonds trips away from the kids dinner out once a week they will be married 49 years in late spring she has never had to worry in her younger years ever and she never had to work outside the home.

Is it normal not to always be connected to your spouse, it is normal not to like eachother at times, is it normal to feel that you feel taken for granted?

I just got some bad news today which felt like a swift kick between the legs and as a result things are going to be very tight finacially until we get better jobs.

I would never get divorced but I can see why people do because marraige is hard and it is not the easy when things are so damn expensive.

What are good godly ways to “suck it up” and deal with the punches life gives out how can I not tkae life and trials so personally in our marraige?

I completely understand what you’re getting at here! Marraige is the hardest thing I have ever done in my life! I never knew it could hurt so badly, because yes at times you feel taken for granted and unappreciated! And yesI think it’s normal not to like each other at times, we can go days without speaking in my house! But we are learning ways to work through these problems! And I get where your coming from with the background of your parents relationships, it sounds like the home I grew up in! But times have changed and things aren’t like that anymore-unfortunately! And event hings that look beautiful and perfect on the outside, usually aren’t so perfect when you get to know it on the inside!
Don’t feel like you are the only one with a ahrd time, everyone has them, at least everyone I know, they just put up a good front for other people, but wait til they get home!
And it’s really hard when you are going through a rough time, but don’t feel like you are getting the support you want or need from your spouse! It feels like you’re all alone and it hurts!
Just think of the good times! Cling to them, cherish them! And everytime things get rough, pull out your memory roladex and turn to the good ones! That should help you get through those not so good times! And pray for the strength to move on and make it! Pray that God will show you the way and show you what you need to do next! Pray that God will bear your burdens for you and take them off your shoulders! But you must be willing to listen and hear what he says! And you must be willing to turn your problems over to him, to let them go!
Good luck-hope this helped!
