What is the proper way to drink high end champagne?
I have a few high end botles of champagne at home and want to have one with my wife for our anniversary next month. I have some Crystal 2002, 1998 dom peringon rose, and a Krug 1998 vintage. Now I do not want to waste it, or not do it right. I am new to the champagne world and would like to know the proper process for enjoying a fine champagne.
1) Do you need to let it rest after opening it?
2) Do you have to serve it chilled or what is perfect temp?
3) How long will they stay good for stored on their sides?
4) Are these good champagnes, and what would be a better bottle to buy, I have these ones already but want the perfect one for her and I to enjoy?
Thanks
Darn your wife is a lucky lucky lady!! Anyways, yes chill for at least 24 hours at 2 degrees for best. You will need an ice bucket (fill it 1/4 with ice), and a nice looking white tea towel. Put in ice bucket before service. Put the towel folded lengthwise only over your left arm, you turn the metal “twist” that’s around the cork 3 times and carefully take it off. Angle the bottle slightly, hold the cork still with your left hand and turn the bottle with your right arm pulling slightly while you turn. When the cork pops tilt the bottle straight back up, wipe the “lip” of the bottle and pour slowly into glasses being care full not to touch the bottle to the glass. Put the bottle back in the ice bucket to keep chilled until it’s time to refill the glasses. When you are removing the cork be sure not to direct the cork towards your wife just to be polite of course, if it does try and pop your hand being over the cork will stop it from flying anywhere. All these Champagnes are wonderful, but it depends on how sweet your wife likes her champagne. Crystal is quite dry, Dom Peringon Rose is sweeter, and Krug is quite dry. If you are not certain then you can tell if she drinks a sweeter wine then she will like a sweeter champagne, a dryer wine the drier the champagne. Oh and no you never let it sit, open and pour to take advantage of the bubbles.

How long can you keep champagne?
I know nothing about champagne. Does it get better with age like most wines? I have several bottles of champagne that have been stored in my parents cool basement. I want to break these out for my friend’s bachelorette party and bridal shower. Are any of these still okay to drink:
Krug 1989
Pol Roger, Brut, Sir Winston Churchill 1986
Pol Roger, Brut Rose, 1988
G.H. Mumm, Brut Millesime, 1988
Bollinger, Special Cuvee Brut
There are boxes upon boxes of these and would be a waste if we didn’t drink them… And a horrible headache if we drank them when we shouldn’t have.
I hope someone knows their champagne!
Champagne, If stored properly really does not have a long shelve life, All the brands that you mentioned, If it’s cloudy it’s turned, Open them soon….
