Help about fitting a garage door?
OK DIY’rs, can you help out a lady who is trying not to have her husband say ‘I told you so’ or making any blonde jokes?
I’ve been given a second hand garage door front, wooden one, as our metal one is shot. It is a canopy style, if that helps. At present it’s making a not very pretty garden ornament, as I got it without really thinking it through. (I’m admitting that to you folks, and not the hubby)
I thought I could just pop the new one on (stop laughing now please).
So, I figured out I need a metal frame to put the wooden front on to, my questions are: Where on earth can I get this frame from, and anybody know of a useful online guide of how to fit one, as I have no instructions, just a heap of bits of metal, and a couple of giant springs.

The fixed frame attached to the masonry, known as the “goal post” for obvious reasons and I’m guessing your existing door has one, may be metal or timber which then carries the “door gear”.
The door gear consists of mechanisms to open, hold, close, and lock the door panel.
The door panel may be rigid or hinged slats for roller shutter types.
The rigid panel is often in two parts consisting of a light frame attached to the door gear then a cladding skin to form the required appearance and level of security.
Door skins may be metal, timber, plastic, or glass fibre.
The canopy door is an “up and over” tilt and slide arrangement which leaves the bottom say 1/3rd of the door protruding overhead when fully open to form a canopy.

Worst case is the goal post, door gear and door panel all need removing and replacing
So if your goal post is OK, fit replacement door gear and panel.
If goal post and door gear OK just replace panel or skin.
