Oak Garden Furniture
What do I use to treat my white oak garden furniture?
I’ve just bought an extending garden table and chairs. I’m conscious that I need to treat it to prevent it warping and decaying. Does anyone know what type of product I need to use, e.g. Danish oil or a preservative.
I’ve been reading about water-based treatments and oil-based treatments but with no clear answer.
Any help greatly appreciated.
I built white oak furniture, is a tough wood and used in large sailing ships. Three things to kill it,
1. is water. can be saved with Thompsons, or Ace hardware Brand treatment. Consumer reports could give you name brands of quality in your area. The two mentioned are as good as you get. Make sure to treat the under side as well as the top.
2. Sun, it will do some real damage, so a cover of some type would make it live longer and kept it from warping. Any things to block the UV rays.
3. Mold, will get in and stain the under wood,. The wood sealer will help and if you wash it off with a hose from time to time.
An oak board off the ground and not treated will last about 20 years. So treated it should last a life time. Make sure the legs are not sitting on carpet or the ground. Make sure it is not sitting in water and let it wick.

Please help answer this question…..rather confused?
My sister has just bought a property in England, the Cotswolds. Its a detached house with 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a conservatory and study, a double garage and a large garden. She bought it with furniture, and some of the furniture it came with include a £3000 2 piece suit, a marble fireplace, wool carpets, oak and pine tables, leather chairs…ummmm…..oh well you get the picture!!
The house is called Bennett House (please note: it is not a manor house, however it is a big house!)
What housing league is she in?? I mean as in……lower class, lower middle class. middle class, upper middle, upper class etc.
Please keep your answers polite as I am only asking this out of curiosity. Any rude answers will be reported. A friendly, detailed answer will be voted as best answer.
I would guess that this is a property in the middle or upper middle class bracket. It’s clearly not a mansion, but sounds like a very desirable house in a beautiful part of the country. It is difficult to classify accurately, because different people put the dividing lines in different places, and without knowing the price of the property, and the size of the land it stands on, etc. accuracy is no more than a stab in the dark. However, I am jealous – it sounds nice!
