Organic Gardening Books
Good book on traditional midwest farming?
I live in Wisconsin and did not grow up here. I see all the corn, soybeans, wheat, cows, tractors, silos around me and I want to find out how they go about their work. I love to garden, and want to see what the scale-up is like. All the books I find now are for people getting out of the rat race and jumping into organic, sustainable gardening which I am not interested in. Even a textbook that tells me about the different corn seed genes, silage, why to grow soybeans over corn, etc. would be fine. Anyone?

Having an organic garden means that we will be using natural fertilizers on our plants. We will not use chemicals that can be harmful to our health. Plants that come from organic gardens have more nutrients. This is one of the many reasons why people want to buy organic foods.
Using natural fertilizers for our garden is a very good way of nurturing the soil for great plant growth. We can use animal manure or even decayed plants, as these natural fertilizers have nutrients that chemical fertilizers can’t give.
Protecting our garden from insects that can destroy our vegetables might seem impossible without the use of pesticides. However, this is where the organic gardening pest control method helps a great deal. Instead of using these harmful chemicals, we can put natural pesticides to work that can help us protect our plants. Keep in mind that not all insect are destroying our plants, some are acting as “natural pesticides” for our garden.
