I am trying to do a figure of Christ and his parents for my garden.
You probably can model clay most easily. It’s possible to fire figures that size (more mid sized than large) in a kiln, but they need to be constructed properly and you have to have access to a kiln of that size.
the alternatives would be making a mold and casting the figures in plaster. Hydrocal is harder than plaster of paris. You also would need to seal the surface after the figures are completely dry, for if they contain water and you live in an area with frost it’s rather likely that they will be damaged by frost.
I guess if you like carving you could make a block of plaster and carve.
