Palm Garden
My Ponytail Palm is now in the garden. I want to put it into a pot now. I have read postings, any other tips?
My Ponytail Palm has a 30 to 35cm diameter bulb, is on a lean and planted in a small outside garden bed.(Facing east. Morning sun) Looking undernourished,(Yellow) but ok. I would like to transplant it into a lovely pot, feed it up and put it on the back deck. (Southerly aspect??) I have read the notes on transplanting from pot to pot. Are there any more tips regarding going from garden to pot?? Appreciate anyones help.
I bought one 35yrs. ago, with a 1″ bulb, it’s now 16″. You would think with such a big bulb, there would be a lot going on below but there isn’t. Just 6″ of stiff little roots. I leave mine out in summer and am trying to decide whether to repot this year. I let mine get completely pot bound and I can still see an inch of soil around the bulb, so maybe next year. Mine “sulks” a little after repotting and drops a few leaves to let me know. Yours might pitch a real ‘hissy fit’ being domesticated but they are tough. My best advice is not to feed or over water until spring. RScott
