What about moving the Islanders to Portland or Seattle. They have to nice arenas the Rose Garden, and Key Arena that could be used for a hockey game. Plus the only team really in the Northwest corner of the USA is Vancouver and their not even in the USA. Or what about San Francisco as a place where they can move?
Bob, how do you know they would lose money in Portland or Seattle? The MLS just added a team in Seattle and they sold a lot of their season tickets showing that they are interested in sports. They also just recently lost the Sonics and having a hockey team would give the people of Seattle something to watch and attend in the winter. Also, the Trailblazers are one of the most supported teams in the NBA also showing that they are interested in sports. San Francisco may have been alittle out there but if cities like Anahiem, Phoenix, and Atlanta can support a team, why wouldn’t San Francisco be able to?
1) Seattle is within Vancouver’s Television signal range wnd would be vetoed by the Canucks (and they exercized this veto in 74, 92, and 97)
2) San Francisco is within walking distance of San Jose. I doubt the area could support two teams.
Again, as long as Charles Wang owns the Islanders, the media can speculate all they want, he’s not moving them anywhere.
