The Fruit Bowl Of Australia – Mildura

Mildura, located at the intersection of the two Australian states Victoria and New South Wales near the state of South Australia, is a great tourist destination with lots of events, sightseeing and comfortable Mildura accommodation. The translation of Mildura gives us ‘Red Earth’ according to the language latje latje. It is the at the centre of the fruit bowl of Victoria and hordes of fruits like olives, citrus fruits, grapes, pistachios, dried fruit and asparagus are grown here. It is a lovely town with a number of wineries and lots of recreational activities. The Murray River flows through Mildura and there are many river related activities too. The town pulsates with activity and also conducts numerous galleries and fairs every month. It is a nice small city that offers a lovely relaxing ambience and you can come here and truly enjoy yourself.

Things To Do & Places To See

The main attraction of Mildura is its wineries. Being a large producer of grapes, the city produces many of Australia’s finest wines like its Chardonnay, Shiraz, Merlot, Sauvignon and Cabernet. One can easily spend days visiting the wineries or the wine tasting centers to sample the wine. Apart from the wines there is also a brewery here, where you can enjoy a beer and see how it gets made. The view of vast stretches of grape farms and greenery of fruit farms is beautiful and you can see them from a hot air balloon ride, on a helicopter or on a plane.

Speaking of greenery, you can visit the beautiful Australian Inland Botanic Gardens. It is the perfect place for a promenade with separate zones for exotic flora, roses and a separate rock garden. The Mildura Regional Art Gallery is a place where one can soak in and enjoy the art and culture of the Sunraysia region where Mildura is located. There are around half a dozen golf courses in Mildura and even miniature golf courses. There are lovely boutiques in Mildura where you can go to shop. You can also choose to watch bike or car racing at Mildura Speedway. Or one could always go kayaking, boating or fishing on the Murray River.

Events and Fairs

There are various kinds of events and fairs organized in Mildura every month or so. The Murray River International Music Festival, Mildura Jazz, Food and Wine Festival, Mildura Country Music Festival, Mildura Wentworth Arts Festival are some of them, there are other races and fairs also.

Apart from Mildura itself, one can visit places like the Pink Lakes or Perry Sandhills that are just around Mildura. Perry Sandhills is an area where many Hollywood films have been shot, with picturesque sand dunes, it is a breathtaking sight. The Pink Lakes are so called as they turn pink towards the end of summer.

There are numerous places where one can come and stay in Mildura. Mildura accommodations basically consist of a number of motels and small scale but immensely comfortable hotels. There are rooms of various sizes with all possible facilities and creature comforts. These small motels are increasingly popular with tourists as they give a lovely quaint feeling.
