Choosing A Wedding Bouquet To Suit Your Style
Flowers don’t last forever, but their beautiful images in the wedding photo albums can create lifelong memories of your walk down the aisle.
The first question to ask when planning your bouquet is: classic or contemporary?
Classic
The popularity of roses as a symbol of enduring love has not faded over the years. If you want to go this traditional route, consider carrying a rounded cluster of white or red roses to create an elegant picture for the wedding album.
A cascading bouquet has been a common accompaniment chosen by brides with long dresses that feature trains. This style contains a number of blossoms at the top that taper off like a waterfall and may also feature foliage or ribbons.
Another option is to carry a bouquet of long-stemmed calla lilies. With their clean lines, these flowers manage to look both classic and modern and may be equally suitable for outdoor and indoor nuptials.
Contemporary
In the past few years, an increasing number of brides have been drawn to sweet daisies or modest posies for their bouquets, particularly for a spring wedding. Wildflowers or bouquets with a variety of textures are also trendy at the moment.
Or, if you’re seeking a bolder statement for the wedding photo albums, consider carrying peonies or tulips – either a monochrome palette or in a couple of contrasting bright colors. And what could be more exotic than carrying a bouquet made of delicate orchids?
For a unique touch, you can add non-floral objects to your bouquet or forgo flowers altogether. If you want your wedding album to stand out from the crowd, consider carrying autumn leaves, tree boughs, pussy willows, silk flowers, a handful of ribbons or a lit candle.

Will this look ok together in a bouquet?
I am using my mom’s bouquet from her wedding (yes the flowers are fake because I am allergic to the scent of certain ones and really don’t want to be sneezing and coughing the day of my wedding). Her bouquet had white roses in it, my colors for my wedding are a dark red and a silvery color. Would it look bad if I put dark red carnations in the bouquet or should I stick with dark red roses?
I haven’t really decided what the bridesmaids bouquets would be. I was going to do theirs around mine. If that makes any sense. Whatever flowers I use in mine, is what will be used in theirs. but not as elaborate as mine.
And the wedding will be in the fall of 2012.
Carnations are fine, but be sure you get the right red, many of the “real” ones have a more orangey reddish tint. As you will be using silks, just be sure they match, if not go with the dark red roses. Also or have florist add a bit of silver ting or you can buy on site below and also google bouquet jewels for many different kinds of picks, pins, butterflies, hearts that can be added to bouquets. Perhaps something to honor your Mother, a heart or something. Just google and there is so much to look at or her initial.
http://www.save-on-crafts.com has the silver ting, look at it, it would have to be shortened, but florist may have or Micheals or Hobby Lobby, very inexpensive and will give the bouquet a bit of pop and will bring in the silvery color. Red and white are beautiful, but sometimes need a bit of zing to bring out the colors.
These two sites had the best bouquet jewels, check it out if you have never heard of them, gorgeous, different kinds, tiny, larger, hearts, crosses, roses, tiny single crystals, or flowers etc. much more and inexpensive, I think something to honor her would be a nice addition to her/your bouquet.
