Rose Geranium Essential Oil
garlic and essential oil as tick/flea repellents?
i’m not going to do anything on my own without consulting a vet who knows, but i wanted to ask here anyway.
i want to stop giving my dogs their monthly flea/tick medication because it’s pesticides…and the ticks latch on to them anyway and i check and pull them off, and they get the lyme vaccine.
i read that diluted rose geranium essential oil could be applied to their collars and fur to repell ticks, but that it is possibly toxic to cats.
then i read garlic (in an amount that is safe for dogs) can with some dogs repel fleas and ticks and other insects.
has anyone tried these alternative treatments, did they work, do you know if they are unsafe? thank you in advance.
I have stated this before on here lots orf times.
Brewers yeast tablets with Garlic repels fleas and tick year round, I give my dogs their tablets daily, tablets not powders, they dont work as well..
None of my dogs ever have fleas or ticks…..I consulted my own vet and also qutie a few in my dog club use them as well, you can buy them at Pets Mart……
Fleas and ticks hate garlic, once it gets into the dogs system no more fleas or ticks…..they will not get on a dog with garlic in their system, guess cause fleas and ticks are blood suckers, the garlic like with vampires keeps them away LOL
they are safe it you give them according to the dogs weight.
I will not give flea treatments such as Frontline or Advantxi or Advantage, some dogs do not do well on them….and I want the best for my dogs
I have given the tablets for over 12 yrs,,,no problems, no build up of garlic or brewers yeats in system, how do I know, cause all my dogs get a complete physical every 6 mos with blood work…no levels of this in their blood stream..get the tablets trying to use powder or the cloves, the dogs do not like the taste and you risk giving too much by those methods, the tablets are the safest and most effective……

Are Geranium and Geranium Rose essential oils the same thing?
I need to get Geranium essential oil for an aromatherapy blend that I’m making. The site I normally buy from only has “geranium rose” essential oil.
Are they the same thing?
Almost…
As an FYI…This oil should arguably be called Pelargonium. The true Geranium plant, Geranium macrorrhizum, a common plant native to the Balkans that is distilled to produce an oil called Zdravetz
There are hundreds of species of Pelargonium with thousands of varieties. The Pelargoniums readily cross and hybridize, creating a myriad of related plants. Botanical nomenclature is far from reliable. Rose Geranium is just one of the many. It is sightly Rosy in fragrance, there are Chocolate geraniums, Lemon, etc… . The Rose Geranium has an application in skin care products because it reduces the secretion of the oil glands, encourages drainage of the lymphatic system and encourages healing. It can be added to a powdered clay and used in the feet or in shoes to treat fungus. The smell is uplifting and reduces stress and anxiety.
Geranium essential oil is used topically as an astringent and as an additive to skin applications for broken capillaries, burns and for couperose skin. It encourages cellular regeneration and wound healing. Is often employed in a massage oil for cellulite, engorged breasts, to encourage lymphatic drainage or edema. Used as an inhalant to stimulate the adrenocortico glands, as an antidepressant and to reduce anxiety and stress.
Consider what your blend is for to determine if the Rose Geranium is a suitable substitute. It likely is.
Good luck and I hope you enjoy the blend.
