Do I have to have a catholic wedding or can it be Non denominational?

I am getting married soon and both me and my fiancee are catholic. We do believe in god and practice our religion but we still are not “perfect”. Meaning we dont attend mass every single week or follow every guideline of our religion. There are a few customs that we dont completely agree with. Every church that we would have liked to have our wedding at has pretty much the same rules: No strapless attire, no aisle runners, no popular music, no rose petals, no confetti, no unity candles……these are just a few, I could go on forever. So my question basically is, Can we get married at a non denominational church? I have not looked into some of the rules for these types of churches yet but, are they the same at all?

Non-denomination churches can really vary in what you can and can’t do. They are usually more flexible then Catholic churches in what you can include in the ceremony, but still will probably require premarital classes and possibly baptism into a Christian church (so if you are baptized Catholic, that counts). Most still won’t allow confetti and rose petals, some won’t allow aisle runners but that depends. Unity candles and strapless attire will most likely be allowed at a non-denominational church.

What are some alternate ideas for runners down wedding guest tables?

For my guest tables, I will have three 8′ rectangle tables put together for each row. The table cloth is white with three different types of centerpieces: 1. black frame filled with black/white design scrapbook paper with three white pillar candles on top 2. vase filled with black marbles holding up red glittered swirling twigs 3. small fishbowl vase with white floating candles sitting on top of red and black/white design scrapbook squares.

My wedding is January 30, 2010. I planned to put red rose petals down the tables sort of as a runner. Since the date is so close to Valentine’s Day, the cost is too much for the amount of tables we’ll have.

Does anyone have any ideas of what I can use instead? I’ve considered fake petals and confetti but I’m looking for something a little different. Any ideas will help!
