I need some ideas for landscaping my front yard which is a steep slope.?

I live in Nova Scotia and the soil is basically clay. My property is 1.5 acres with the house sitting on top of a hill 265 feet from the road. The driveway starts on the left and cuts across the slope to the right and ends in a 3 car turnabout beside the house. The yard is divided into an upper left portion, the driveway, then the lower right portion. On the upper left portion of the yard I installed landscape fabric and 4 inch rock to solve the erosion problem. The landscape is essentially a clean slate, no grass, gets full sun. The only thing I did was plant rugosa roses in the berm on the lower right portion of the yard that runs from the turnabout to the road. I will email pics to give you a better idea of what it looks like. I’d like some ideas for plants, where to put sod, flower beds, trees, retaining walls, etc. I did hire a landscape architect but got burnt and lost a lot of money.

Ornamental grasses are attractive, large and low maintenance plants that like full sun. Large rocks look nice and are maintenance free. I would skip the sod, to much work to mow.

Effects of Tree Trimming

Good maintenance of trees requires a lot of care and effort for their healthy growth. Tree trimming is an essential tool that helps in the maintenance of healthy growth.  This would help us in getting rid of the dense overgrowths and improve the overall appearance. If you donot take care of the trees they are sure to wither away rendering an ugly look to the overall surroundings. Good maintenance is thus very important for the young trees that we have in our lawns, so whenever we have decided to trim a tree we should always begin by getting rid of the dead and dry twigs. These dry twigs act as parasites for the tree and consume the water and food of the plant without giving enough benefit. Also removing them will allow more air and light to reach the remaining part of the plant allowing better growth.
Also if you have trees that yield flowers or fruits trimming would result in better yields. During trimming we cut the dead shoots and branches and also we control the excessive size of the plants. Thus the remaining plant gets a good share of the stored food and becomes strong and healthy. Also in some cases the shoots that we take from the plants can be used for further harvesting. The method is true for the plants like roses, where the twigs can be re cultivated resulting in the growth of new flower beds.
Trimming may be done to improve the overall aesthetics of the plant. The overgrown and de-shaped tree makes your lawn look weary. The trees can be trimmed into various shapes that render beauty to the lawn and create exquisite décor. The different shapes in which they can be cut include triangular, round and circular forms. Sometimes it is not possible for us to cut the tree in our desired shape and we may need the help of some professional. Many parks in USA have trained professional arborists for this purpose and in this way have become a great attraction for the people at large.
Trimming of the tree is also done to increase the strength of a tree. This practice is known as canopy thinning. In which we remove the branches selectively to increase the amount of light and air that can enter the remaining tree. This helps in making the trees stronger and hence they are not blown off by strong wind or get uprooted in flooding conditions. Sometimes the trimming of the lower branches is done instead of upper ones to increase the height of the trees. This creates a shady space for the pedestrians to stand in case of very heavy sun on sunny days. This kind of trimming is known as canopy lifting.
Sometimes only the targeted plants are pruned to prevent the spread of any disease. This is an essential practice because sometimes diseases spread to all the plants in a garden if the diseased plant is not removed in time. In this manner trimming of the trees can also help in getting rid of diseases.

She’s a puppy and acting like a puppy. You need to work on your training…you made a commitment to your dogs the day you brought them home. Puppies if left to their own devices will certainly eat anything they can get their paws on, dig up rose bushes, etc. Get a book on crate training and when you can’t supervise your pup; crate her. It’s for her own safety at this point. There is a serious lack of supervision here, and it sounds like your puppy is bored and not being stimulated enough…she needs more than a quick walk around the block every day.

~Post this in the dog section and the answers would be a 180

~~dogs don’t just randomly turn on their owners. If you don’t know anything about dogs then you probably shouldn’t be answering this question.
