Garden privacy…..creative ideas please?
I have moved into a terraced house…with a small sunny back garden about 60 feet long by 20 feet wide. It is not overlooked at the back, which is lovely, and the neighbours seems nice. I’ve put up tall fences at the side, but would like more privacy from the windows of the houses next door….
Any ideas for shrubs or trees which grow fast but are not too big for a small garden? Or any other ideas to give more privacy? Thank you!!
There are some brilliant ideas here. I just want to stick in my opinion, which you may or may not like, but I hope will give you a little food for thought.
Your garden is very long and not very wide. I would be concerned that putting trees in will narrow down your garden further and also, while shading it from your neighbours, will also shade it from the sun, creating a dull and damp garden and one which other plants find it hard to thrive in.
Use bamboo and reed screening on your fences for a more natural look, and you may wish to sweep the screening in and arc to create areas within your garden and make it less rectangular. make your paths run diagonally and in curves to sweep the eyes around the garden instead of up and down it.
Watch with bamboo, its one of the more rigorous growing plants and can take over a garden very easily. Many gardeners often sink a large pot into the ground and plant bamboo in the pot to prevent it from taking over.
