Punished on Valentines Day?
I recently did something awlful that really upset my boyfriend and we didn’t speak for nearly a week. I accept I was in the wrong (badly) and apologised sincerely to him.This was over weeks ago and things were starting to go back to normal between us. However, in the run up to Valentine’s day he started hinting about all the amazing gifts he would be giving me – tiffiany’s, agent provocateur and roses delivered to my desk. None of these things materialised. Yesterday he presented me with a card and said to me when he saw my disappointment – “now you know what it feels like – I was so disappointed with what you did the other week I wanted you to understand what it’s like”. How should I respond to this? I know I was in the wrong, but don’t think you should actively set out to punish your partner, no matter how bad their crimes. You either accept thier apology or you don’t.
He is still hurting about the original slight, so you need to give him room. But you shouldn’t deal with the repercusions of a bad decision for the rest of your relationship. If he was giving you a ONE time, “that’s what you get” then I would let it pass, if it becomes a constant thing, then he can’t move pass the slight and the relationship is doomed.
