Vegetable Garden Layouts
Anyone know the name of this movie ?
I am trying to find an older US movie (probably from eighties) which is kinda science fiction which goes on about a low IQ man having a supernatural or alien visit and turns into genius overnight. I don’t remember the star, but few clues I can give is that the protagonist gives advice to the bar owner about how to change his parking garage layout to accommodate more vehicles, and also ability to understand when an earthquake was coming. He also realizes that the fence he built to keep his vegetables safe from a stealing rabbit actually trapped the rabbit, leading to continuous vegetable theft from his garden. Realizing this, he leaves the garden door open one night to let the rabbit go.
Sorry for the stupid description, but this most of what I can remember.

How to Get a Vegetable Garden Layout
Opening a home vegetable garden is not as easy as picking up your tools, digging and planting some seeds. If you desire to have a good harvest at the end of the season, it’s imperative to do some cautious planning before really growing your vegetables. A fundamental factor in your planning should be the layout for your vegetable garden.
Your vegetable garden layout should comprise garden location, plant selection and a planting plan.
First of all, for your garden location, find the sunniest and brightest spot in the whole yard. Try to avoid areas that are under the shade, as most vegetables need at least 5 hours of direct sunlight a day.
Following this is the preparation of the soil. Be sure to add generous amounts of organic humus to your soil. Compost, peat moss, well rotted manure or processed manure is all good forms of organic humus.
Plant selection is the second part. In selecting the vegetables, you should consider space limitations, climate and other factors that may inhibit the growth of the vegetables you want to include in your garden. Also, consider the individual needs of the vegetables.
The final tread in vegetable garden layout is the planting plan. This step requires you to make a diagram containing the kinds of vegetables to be planted, the distance between plots and the time of planting. You can also put in the dates to remind you of the necessary tasks.
Appropriate planning in your vegetable garden layout helps to ensure a better harvest every time.

Can a garden be organic if lawn chemicals were previously used?
I’d like to have a vegetable/flower garden in our yard but currently don’t think I want square foot gardening. (I may raise the soil below the plants, however, and will probably not use a traditional layout plan, as I’d like to be a bit more artistic.) We had crabgrass preventer and a weed/fertilizer treatment put on once or twice last year and have generally not used it more than once or twice yearly in previous years. Can our garden ever really be organic if those substances are in the soil?
Including a link to your source of information and/or explaining your expertise/background when answering will be very helpful. Thanks!
If you were to try and get your garden certified organic you would have to quit using the lawn chemicals for 3 years (as well as any other banned substances along with a soil building plan, a 4+ year crop rotation plan and many other requirements-see it all at http://www.ams.usda.gov/nop) and than your garden would be eligible for organic certification.
But since you are a home gardener not going for organic certification organic can be what ever you want it to be. If you really want to be organic I suggest you read up on what organic gardening is really about and what it does for your soils, plants and local environment. http://www.rodaleinstitute.org http://www.localharvest.org http://www.organicconsumers.org all have a lot of information about what makes a garden or farm organic
